The Milwaukee Brewers 2023 season has been a rollercoaster full of several ups and downs. At the time of this publication they have a .500 record of 34-34 and are second in the weak National League Central division. Injuries have been a major story line for this team, but in the end the general consensus is that they have not met expectations or played up to their potential.
In this article we will take a look at one Milwaukee Brewers player who could be off the roster by independence day.
One player whose 40-man roster spot that may be jeopardy is Jon Singleton. He was called up to the big leagues for the first time since 2015 in early June. Milwaukee electing to move on from first baseman/designated hitter Luke Voit and Darin Ruf’s knee injury played a role in the promotion.
Since getting the call up Jon Singleton has collected just three hits in his first 29 at-bats. It’s a small sample size consisting of 11 games but with designated hitter Jesse Winker nearing a return from injury it’s possible that Singleton becomes the odd man out.
Singleton does not have any minor league options remaining so in order to be removed from the active roster he would have to be designated for assignment. If this were to occur he would have to pass through waivers in order and accept a minor league assignment in order to remain in the organization.
