The Milwaukee Brewers have optioned Colin Rea to Triple-A one day after he gave up six earned runs against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He had been relatively solid filling in as a member of the starting rotation, but over his last five starts he had a surrendered 20 earned runs, had a 7.30 ERA, allowed eight home runs, and opposing batters had a .294 batting average against him.
With Colin Rea being optioned down the Brewers elected to recall left-handed pitcher Clayton Andrews. He last made a pair of appearances with Milwaukee in early July. During his MLB debut he got tagged with five earned runs against the Pirates and then was charged with the loss in extra innings against the Cubs on Independence day.
After the Milwaukee Brewers made the transaction news public fans had a lot to say about the move.

Rea was solid this year, but it was time.

Yeah, I think we saw this coming.

Too late. Should have been off the roster a while ago.

The two different stretches during which Rea threw three consecutive Colin Rea Specials (a start of exactly five innings with four or fewer earned runs allowed) were magical.
Seven of Rea’s 19 starts this year (over a third) have qualified as a Colin Rea Special. https://t.co/AXiJQZWW1m pic.twitter.com/pLzaRRT7Jv

Colin Rea definitely did his part this year. He kept the Brewers in games. If you had told me that they would be in first while Adames and Tellez sucked and Rea had the 3rd most innings on the team, I’d say your crazy.
Hats off to Rea! https://t.co/khcC5reLHo
