Milwaukee Brewers All-Star closer Devin Williams is reportedly getting another opinion regarding persistent low back pain. MLB.com reporter Jack Magruder indicated that the Crew’s medical staff was not overly concerned but as a precaution he wants an opinion from a specialist as well.
How long has Devin Williams been dealing with low back pain?
Brewers manager Pat Murphy indicated that Williams has been dealing with back stiffness since the start of camp. His last appearance in a Cactus League game was March 5. According to Sophia Minnaert he will take time off as a precaution and continue with treatment.
Could the Milwaukee Brewers be without Devin Williams on Opening Day?
Multiple reports have indicated that there currently is no timetable for when Devin Williams might return. His next step will be getting an opinion from a spine specialist. He will be seeing Dr. Robert Watkins out of Los Angeles.
Who would be the Brewers closer if Devin Williams has to start the year on the injured list?
Last year Joel Payamps worked his way up to being the eighth inning set up man. Theoretically this would put him in line as the teams closer should Williams be forced to miss time during the regular season. Abner Uribe has the most electric arm and would also be a strong candidate to consider.
