Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy recently made an announcement regarding his opening day lineup. Opening day this year is March 28, 2024. Despite there still being more than two weeks until the start of the regular season he elected to reveal who will be playing second base on opening day.
Brice Turang will be the Milwaukee Brewers opening day second baseman.
Pat Murphy told Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Brice Turang will be the opening day second baseman. Murphy used the phrase, “I’m expecting this kid to take a quantum leap.” He did not provide any other insight as to who will be playing where on March 28.
2023 was a less than desirable rookie season for Brice Turang.
Last spring Brice Turang was one of the freshmen to make the opening day roster. He played excellent defense throughout his rookie campaign but at the plate he struggled to the tune of .585 OPS and 60 wRC+. As a result he split time between the major and minor leagues and will be looking to make a much bigger impact at the plate during his sophomore season.
The Milwaukee Brewers may be facing a left-handed pitcher on opening day against the New York Mets.
Tim Britton of The Athletic reported in early March that left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana is in line to serve as the Mets opening day starter. Quintana has a long standing history of being a thorn in the Brewers side, but what’s even more interesting is that manager Pat Murphy plans on starting left-handed hitting Brice Turang despite the match up.
