The Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox will be squaring off for a three games series starting on Friday, May 24. This will be Lexington, Massachusetts native Sal Frelick’s first time playing at Fenway Park as a professional baseball player. Aside from that other news regarding the series is that the Brew Crew made a pair of pitching changes prior to the series beginning.
Jared Koenig will be the starting pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night.
Instead of Bryse Wilson on the hill to start Friday’s game against the Red Sox manager Pat Murphy has elected to use multi inning reliever Jared Koenig as an opener. Koenig has experience as a starter for he has been used in that role five other times throughout his career. He will be the 11th different starting pitcher used by the Brewers this season which ties the Los Angeles Dodgers for the most in the league.
Pat Murphy said the Boston Red Sox lineup is the primary reason why he is using Jared Koenig as an opener.
Per Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the Brewers manager made the decision to use Jared Koenig as an opener because of the Red Sox top of the lineup. Murphy wants to go with “leverage in the first inning” as Boston is scheduled to deploy Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, and Connor Wong as their first three hitters.
The Brewers are also going with an opener tonight — Jared Koenig.
“Leverage in the first inning,” said Pat Murphy. “This (Boston) lineup presents itself a little bit.”

Enoli Paredes had his contract selected by the Milwaukee Brewers and Bradley Blalock was optioned to the minor leagues.
Bradley Blalock, who was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox and acquired in the Luis Urias trade, was called up last week but did not make his MLB debut. He came straight from Double-A and has been optioned back down to Biloxi. 28 year old Enoli Paredes will take his spot on the active roster. He last pitched in the big leagues in 2022 but has been off to a tremendous start in Triple-A as he has 34 punch outs across 20.2 innings pitched and a 1.31 ERA.
