Milwaukee Brewers top prospect Jackson Chourio has been playing all year in the Southern League for the Biloxi Shuckers in Double-A. He is one of the top prospects in all of baseball and put together a solid first half of the season that consisted of a .249/.304/.410 slash line with 11 home runs and 23 stolen bases. Despite those numbers the 19 year old was under some scrutiny by some for his play. His batting average was the most commonly criticized aspect.
What’s important to remember about the Southern League in the first half was that pitchers were using pre-tacked baseball. This allowed them to get a better grip on the ball and spin it better, which makes hitting more difficult. Once the minor leagues hit the half way point those baseballs went away and Jackson Chourio has been on a tear ever since.
Jackson Chourio, top Milwaukee Brewers prospect, has collected multiple hits in five straight games.

The game prior to the break Jackson Chourio had a multiple hit game where he went 2-4 with a home run. Post break he has gone 10-18. This brings his total to 12-22 over his last five games and includes multiple hits in each contest, two home runs, and three doubles.
Over this short stretch his season batting average has risen 18 points to .267. It’s possible that playing with normal baseballs again is the cause of his recent spike. He could also just be hot at the plate or rejuvenated after some time off. Regardless, how he does the rest of the season will be worth monitoring.
