The Milwaukee Brewers have lost a few impact players due to injury this year in which surgery was required. Aaron Ashby, Garrett Mitchell, and Sal Frelick are three players who underwent the knife in 2023. Frelick is currently back with the big league club whereas Ashby and Mitchell are rehabbing back, but one of these players could begin a rehab assignment as soon as Labor day weekend.

A few weeks ago Aaron Ashby was back in Milwaukee for a check-in. The biggest takeaway at that time was that despite his arm feeling great one significant obstacle impacting his return was that his velocity had not returned yet.
No update has been provided regarding Aaron Ashby’s velocity, but Curt Hogg reported that the Brewers will have him throw live BP this week and if all goes well he will make a rehab start with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday, September 2.
It had previously been indicated that he would be rehabbed back as a relief pitcher, so despite Milwaukee saying he will make a “start” odds are he will only work one inning. His best opportunity to return to the big leagues this year is as a reliever in which because of Andrew Chafin’s struggles the Brewers could use another left-handed pitcher.
