This Milwaukee Milkmen Player is Being Called up to the MLB
It is no secret that players in the American Association of Professional Baseball would love a shot to make it to the big leagues in the MLB. Many professionals in the AA have made an MLB run, simply never making it above double A or triple A.
The Milkmen really had an identity as a fast base-stealing team that could pitch and defend.
For this team that was exemplified by Bryan Torres whose contract was recently purchased by the St. Louis Cardinals.
Torres led all of the American Association of Professional baseball in batting, averaging .370 on the season. Teammate Roy Morales was second in the AA, hitting .360.
He played in 90 games and had 359 AB’s, garnering 133 base hits. He was known all throughout the AA as a “tough out”.
But it really was his speed and defense that were impressive all year for Milwaukee. For Bryan Torres you do have to wonder if he can get that speed to translate to the “next level.”
A HUGE congratulations to Bryan Torres! 🐮🎉

He stole how many?
Torres also led the AA in steals with 71 stolen bases. The next closest player to him was Brynn Martinez of Winnipeg with 39 steals. So while Torres did not double his next closest statistical counterpart, he certainly came close. Martinez played in 92 games; Torres played in 90 games.
Known throughout the league as a burner, Torres was only caught stealing 11 times. That is pretty impressive given that every time he was on base he had the immediate attention of the defense.
Of course the basepaths are 90 feet in the MLB, just that same distance as they are in the American Association of Professional baseball. And of course while the competition is different, Ronald Acuna Jr. leads the MLB with 66 stolen bases over 149 games. When put up against Torres’s numbers, that certainly adds to the “impressiveness”.
In his 359 AB’s, Torres only ground into 5 double plays. That also speaks to his speed.
For Torres being able to now have a shot with a professional team and system, especially one that seemed to have a down year like the Cardinals have had, and having the speed he has bodes well for his hopes and dreams to play in the majors.
