The Milkmen have 17 stolen bases in its first seven games.
The Milwaukee Milkmen have officially started their regular season. The team is 4-3. They are a game and a half out of first place in their division. So far so good over at Franklin Field. One thing that certainly stands out so far about this team is its team speed. The Milkmen have only been caught stealing twice. As a team, they already have 17 stolen bases in seven games.
They won their first game 17-4 on May 12th. The team was able to win its first three games to start the season 3-0. The team had a tough series against Cleburne Railroaders. But, of course, the season is still early and there is a ton of baseball left to play. The regular season for the Milkmen ends on Sept 4th.
Individual Player Updates
Starting pitcher Ryan Zimmerman is off to a great start. He has started two games for Milwaukee, pitching 10+ total innings. He has a 1.68 ERA. The 28 yr old seems to be a reliable starter on the front end.
Catcher Roy Morales leads the team in hitting with a .444 average. He also has two home runs to go with 9 RBI’s. From the road statistics available it also seems like he is off to an impressive start defensively.
Prized offseason acquisition Drew Ward is playing well. In seven games he has 28 at-bats and is hitting .250. He also has a home run.
Infielder Bryan Torres leads the team with 4 stolen bases. In six games played he has a .391 average.
Another acquisition, Michael Crouse has yet to play due to injury. He has strong connections to Canadian baseball, having played for Team Canada. Crouse played 7 years in both the Blue Jays and Yankees affiliate system. According to his Fangraphs player page he has some speed. In 2011 he stole 38 bases for the Toronto Blue Jays “A” affiliate club.in 2013, in A+ ball he stole 21 bases and hit 9 home runs while batting .250.
That seems to be a typical profile for this Milkmen roster: lots of AA, A, and lower level MLB minor league experience.
More Milkmen Recap
Last year was a good year for the Milkmen. However they were not 2022 playoff champions last season in the American Association of Professional Baseball. One would think that would be the goal for this year. Last year’s playoff champs were the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks. The Milkmen did have a strong season and expect to be competitive again. So far, at 4-3 that appears to be the case. The club prides itself on a great game day experience. The team runs tons of special game day promotions.
Last year’s “play of the year” was recently announced by the American Association. You can view it below.
And the 2022 Play of the Year goes to…

As the season continues, something to watch for is what individual players will get “promoted” and moved up to the minor leagues and/or get a shot to play for the MLB. Keep your eyes here as we’ll update fans on roster moves.
The Milkmen are located at 7035 S Ballpark Drive in Franklin, WI. Five game “mini-packages” are now available via their website. It seems like for this team, playing ball over .500 is the goal.
