The Green Bay Packers have a lot going for them so far in training camp. From Jordan love to Carrington Valentine, it seems like this Packers team is loaded with young studs going forward.
One group that is arguably not getting enough coverage, is this team’s defensive front seven. From Kenny Clark to Preston Smith, there’s a significant amount of talent in this group.
That’s not just me saying that either, take it from Packers head coach Matt LaFleur if you don’t believe me.
The take:
In a press conference Thursday morning, Matt LaFleur was taking questions on everything from whether Jordan love is going to play in either of the next two preseason games, to his feelings on if the defensive front seven applied enough pressure in the joint practice with the Patriots yesterday.
Now in his answer to the first question, he just said we’ll wait and see, however his answer to the second question was a lot more interesting in my opinion.
” Our defense did an outstanding job of winning their one-on-ones “, he explained. ” Some guys were splitting double teams, so I felt like the pressure on the quarterback was pretty consistent “, he went on to say.
The takeaway from this:
Now maybe I’m reading a little too deep into all of this, however it’s no secret that there’s a lot of hype surrounding this Packers team relative to the past couple seasons. Seeing even coach himself acknowledge this front line’s progress can definitely be pleasing to any Packers fan.
When you combine the impressive preseasons from guys like Carrington Valentine in the secondary, with guys like Preston Smith in the linebacker spot, you can really see the improvement in this Packers defense. All in all, this press conference as a whole was pretty assuring.
