If there is one thing that every Packers fan can agree it is that Marcedes Lewis catching touchdowns is awesome. He had one at the goal line yesterday and then another huge catch on a ridiculous throw by Aaron Rodgers. After the game, he was asked when teams are going to start guarding him at the goal line. Marcedes Lewis started his response very simply, “They’re not.”
Asked Marcedes Lewis when teams are gonna guard him on the goal-line leak out (today was a corner route)
“They're not, because of my intention when I block. You know what I mean? That plays to my advantage. Dominating at the line of scrimmage and then being able to do my thing.”

Marcedes Lewis On When Teams Will Guard Him
Lewis is not on the field for his pass-catching ability. He is there for his run-blocking and opposing teams know it. This is what makes him such a threat at the goal line. Lewis and the Packers know this. “Because of my intention when I block…That plays to my advantage. Dominating the line of scrimmage and then being able to do my thing,” Lewis said. Teams have to respect his run-blocking. If they try to fall back to cover him, he will simply dominate the line of scrimmage.
Doing The Dirty Work
Lewis does the dirty work that you don’t often see. The reason Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon are able to break off huge runs is the blocking up front. This is why it is so great when Lewis gets a chance to catch the ball. Even the 1-yard touchdowns feel like a huge reward for him for all that he does for the Packers’ offense. He also provides great veteran leadership to the team which is something you cannot quantify.
Marcedes Lewis will be missed in Green Bay when he is no longer there. The Packers will have a hard time replacing his run-blocking and leadership. Hopefully, the Packers can continue this run and thank Lewis with a deep playoff run.
