The Los Angeles Lakers finally worked out a long-awaited deal with now-former free agent Christian Wood. It was reported on Tuesday that the former Dallas Mavericks big man has agreed to a two-year contract with LA, which will now see the 27-year-old take his talents to Hollywood.
Los Angeles Lakers Agree Two-Year Deal With Christian Wood
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news on Twitter, reporting that Wood’s new deal also has a player option for next season. Further reports indicated that the 6-foot-10 forward/center has agreed to a two-year contract worth an estimated $5.7 million.
It took a while before Wood found a new team after his previous contract with the Mavs ended at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. For their part, Dallas opted not to extend the former UNLV standout after just one year with the squad. The Mavs traded for Wood last summer, which required them to send Trey Burke, Marquese Chriss, Boban Marjanovic, and Sterling Brown to the Houston Rockets.
Los Angeles Lakers Fans React to Christian Wood News
There was a lot of buzz surrounding Wood in free agency, and LA was one of the teams that were believed to be interested in the services of the NBA journeyman. As it turns out, though, not too many squads out there were actually willing to add him to their team — for one reason or another. It took Wood more than two months to find a new home since NBA free agency opened this summer.
Be that as it may, Lakers fans were still absolutely hyped by this news. The purple and gold faithful took to Twitter to share their delight and excitement over their team’s latest acquisition:
league is done 😭🔥
