The Green Bay Packers were unable to sign a promising young rookie cornerback they waived Tuesday to the practice squad after an NFC rival claimed them Wednesday. The Packers waived Kyu Blu Kelly Tuesday in a move that some Packers fans suspect means Eric Stokes will be activated from the injured reserve.
The Baltimore Ravens drafted Kelly in the fifth round of April’s draft. He spent time with the Seahawks before the Packers signed Kelly off waivers in November. On Thanksgiving, Kelly played some defensive and special teams snaps for the Packers against the Detroit Lions.
The Commanders sign Kelly from the Green Bay Packers
According to Ben Standing with The Athletic, the Washington Commanders signed Kelly off waivers from the Packers.
Update: Commanders claimed Kyu Blu Kelly off waivers from the Packers, per source (@NickiJhabvala had that).
Bigger (6'0") and younger (22) than Johnson.
Fifth round pick by the Ravens. Cut before Week 1. Then Seahawks and Packers. Now Commanders. That's 1/8th of the league. https://t.co/hfNLuyLzJp

The move means the Packers cannot keep the young cornerback on their practice squad. It’ll be interesting to see if the Commanders use Kelly more on their defense and special teams than the Packers did.
