The Packers’ offseason is in a new phase now that Jordan Love will officially be the starting quarterback in 2023. In a recent interview on NFL Now, Steve Calhoun, Love’s quarterback coach since 8th grade, said that Aaron Jones, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs will join Jordan Love in California to better their chemistry and timing.

Jordan Love Taking Charge

Jordan Love entered the last three seasons knowing he will be the backup quarterback to future hall-of-famer Aaron Rodgers. However, now that Rodgers has made it clear he intends to play for the New York Jets, it’s time for Jordan Love to become the face of the franchise. The fourth-year quarterback is trying to get chemistry and timing with his weapons early in the offseason.
Jordan Love has been in Matt LaFleur’s offense for three seasons so he already has a grasp of the playbook and scheme. However, getting reps with the playmakers he will be on the field with is also extremely important.
Jordan Love’s Offseason Workouts
Not only did Jordan Love’s quarterback coach reveal who he plans on working out with, he also gave a glimpse into his individual coaching. Calhoun talked about how he’s working with Love and breaking down every little detail of his throw, mainly his footwork.
Calhoun acknowledged that he won’t be with Jordan Love in Green Bay so he’s trying to get Love to the point to where he can catch and correct his mistakes without being told. He also said that he has plans for their workouts, but if there is something that coach Matt LaFleur is specifically asking from Jordan, then that is always the focus of their workouts.
There may be even more players joining Love to work out in California this offseason, but the ones his coach named were Aaron Jones, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs. Watson exploded onto the scene in the second half of the season and goes into the season as Green Bay’s projected wide receiver number one. It will be key for him and Jordan Love to be on the same page.
Expectations for Love
For the first time in 30 years, the Green Bay Packers will start the season without Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers at the helm. Love will have big shoes to fill in 2023, but the offseason work he is putting in will only speed up his transition to being the starting quarterback.
