Green Bay Packers: Jordan Love Set to be the Team’s First Black Quarterback to Open a Season

The Green Bay Packers are the most storied franchise in the NFL and have a very rich history. However, in the over 100 years of their existence, they have never had a Black quarterback open the season as the starter. Jordan Love is going to be the first Black quarterback to open the season as a starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers and will be one of just three to ever start a game.

The Green Bay Packers are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL and have seen many quarterbacks start games for the team in their history. However, it was not until 2013 that a Black quarterback started a game for the team. Seneca Wallace started against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013. The next time a Black quarterback started a game for the Packers was in 2017 when Brett Hundley started multiple games for an injured Aaron Rodgers.

Jordan Love has earned his job as the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback by his merit and skill, but he will make history when he steps onto the field on Sunday. Love became just the third Black quarterback to make a start when he started in place of Aaron Rodgers against the Chiefs in 2021. He will become the first Black quarterback to start a season for the Green Bay Packers.

All eyes are on Jordan Love

Jordan Love is tasked with following up two Hall of Fame careers. Jordan Love has passed every test with flying colors so far and looks poised to be successful in the NFL. He was already very talented coming out of college, which is why the Packers chose to draft him in the first round despite having Aaron Rodgers. However, Jordan Love, despite all his talent, had to wait his turn.

He was put in a tough situation being drafted in the first round to back up a man who went on to win the MVP Award in consecutive seasons. Jordan Love never complained and answered every question with class, showcasing his maturity throughout a difficult position. Now it is his time to shine.
