Wisconsin sophomore guard Jonathan Davis earned an impressive honor Thursday afternoon. Davis made the roster for the 2021 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Cup Team. In what has been a tough week for the Badgers men basketball team, it was nice to receive some good news. Anytime you can represent your country at the highest level, you should feel honored. Jonathan will be one of 12 players who made the final roster. Including guys like Chet Holmgren, the number one recruit in the country that is committed to Gonzaga. Because of this, not many people outside of Wisconsin fans had Jonathan on their radar to make this team. Clearly, Davis turned heads at camp and proved to be worthy of a roster spot.

Jonathan joins some elite company by being selected. Joining the likes of guys like Jayson Tatum, J.J. Reddick, James Worthy, Stephen Curry, and countless other NBA greats. Davis, as a true freshman last year, became an immediate fan favorite. Being on a senior heavy Badger team, he found a role with his effort. However, it became clear Davis had much more to his game than just being a spark plug guy. It was some of the best play we have seen from a true freshman since 2012 Sam Dekker. Speaking of Sam Dekker, Davis has a game that will remind you a of the Wisconsin legend.

Why This Should Excite Badger Fans

The reason this selection should excite Badger fans is that Davis does not seem to be satisfied with his great freshman year. In fact, he is continuing to evolve his game and seems to be holding his own against the nations best. As we know, next years Badger team is going to look very different. Davis might arguably be the number one scoring option on night one. For instance, at times during the season last year, it felt like Davis was one of the better shot creators on the entire roster. Because of this, Badger fans should be excited for this superstar in the making to lead this young group next year. Be on the lookout July 3-6 to see the U19 preliminary round to catch Jonathan representing team USA. Hopefully, the team USA selection is the first accolade in a great career for Jonathan Davis.
