The 2023 Milwaukee Brewers home opener was a game for the ages. Joey Wiemer wasn’t the star of the show in this particular game, but he did have an insane outfield assist during the second inning where he threw out former Brew Crew member Daniel Vogelbach.

Vogelbach hit a ball into the right field corner that in most circumstances is a fairly easy double. However, Wiemer played the ball perfectly off of the wall and fired a missile to second base that was on target. His throw was clocked at 82 MPH and the result was his first career outfield assist.
After the game, Joey Wiemer casually discussed his insane outfield assist.

During the post game interview, Wiemer said this about his throw that cut down Vogelbach, “ball in the corner, tried to get a good read off the wall, made a little spin throw, and it just happened to be on the base.”
Wiemer also went on to say, “love getting chances to make plays, especially in the outfield. You’ll have games where you don’t get balls and then games where you get 10 opportunities, so it’s nice to take advantage of the opportunities you get.”
From a scouting perspective, Wiemer has a 70 grade arm. This makes him a great fit in right field and it will be fun to see him test runners as the season goes on.
