Joe Barry has certainly been under fire seemingly all season. While the fans see the talent on the field, it doesn’t seem to be consistent throughout games. The fourth quarter vs the New York Giants is a perfect example. That combined with the offense’s inability to score throughout a whole game bodes for a disaster finish more times than not. One change that Packers fans and local media have been clamoring for since week one revolved around star CB Jaire Alexander. Many fans believe that Justin Jefferson wouldn’t have had the record breaking day he did, if Jaire was lined up across from him all day. Today Joe Barry said that type of change will happen.
Jaire Alexander Will Be”More Aggressive” Going Forward
It all started with Tom Silverstein asking if it’s a good use of Packers’ CB Jaire Alexander to have him play off coverage 50 times in a game. Barry said no, even though he calls the coverages. He said it will change. Alexander and other corners will be allowed to play more aggressively. “We will do that moving forward.”
He then went into more detail saying “Jaire can do it all” as a defensive back: “I don’t think there’s any position in the secondary that Jaire Alexander couldn’t play.” He says Alexander’s injury vs. Najee Harris last season doesn’t make him hesitate to move Alexander inside. Jaire’s should injury that kept him out most of 2021 was suffered while covering RB Najee Harris.
