The New York Jets were a breeding ground for drama this season. Between the Zach Wilson situation involving his play and the collapse of the once playoff hopefuls, Jets fans have had a busy season. Recently, in an article from Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, Rosenblatt uncovered the drama that had been going down behind the scenes. One such incident included Elijah Moore yelling choice words at then offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur.
Moore: ‘Go F*** Yourself’ and ‘You Suck’ highlight comments
The frustrations of Elijah Moore seem to have boiled over at an unfortunate time. According to Rosenblatt, leading up to Moore’s request for a trade from the Jets, there was an apparent situation that occurred at practice. Moore played the entire game against the Green Bay Packers but failed to see any targets. Even though the Jets won, the team had been utilizing Moore in an unproductive way.
Moore caught 43 of his 77 targets in 2021 for 538 yards and five receiving touchdowns. Moore also recorded a rushing touchdown on five carries while only playing in 11 games. Coming into 2022 with the addition of Garrett Wilson, the Jets were expected to create opportunities for both of their young receivers. Instead, Moore played in 16 games and saw 65 targets and a lone touchdown. The looks were not there at all for Moore this season, but neither was the quarterback play.
Moore grew frustrated with the Jets plan for him this season and requested a trade early on. However, his request was denied which led to growing frustrations. At one particular practice following the Packers game, Moore approached LaFleur and stated “Go **** yourself” after the two had a conversation on the sideline. Moore then walked away and yelled “You suck” towards LaFleur before exiting the practice field.
Both the Jets and Elijah Moore have been quiet about the situation and look to move on from the incident. It still appears that Moore is frustrated with his role, as he has engaged in the comments of posts regarding the Jets offensive coordinator search. It is also unclear whether or not Moore faced any punishment for his comments towards LaFleur. Mike LaFleur now reportedly finds himself on the Rams staff, but his new role is currently unclear.
