Some Green Bay Packers players on the roster will be free agents after the 2024 season. Some players on this year’s roster will not be brought back in 2025. One of the biggest stories for the Green Bay Packers this offseason has been when will they give quarterback Jordan Love a contract extension.
He is probably the number one priority for the Packers organization right now. There will be some other players other than Love that will need to get a contract extension. Green Bay is one of the youngest teams in the NFL.
They have drafted and developed players well over the past couple of seasons. There is one player that the Green Bay Packers must give a contract extension to after they are done paying Jordan Love.
Green Bay Packers Defensive Tackle Kenny Clark Is Eligible For a Contract Extension
Packers defensive tackle Kenny Clark is entering the final year of his contract. There may be a chance that Green Bay doesn’t re-sign him at the end of the 2024 season and that would be a surprise to a ton of people. Clark has been one of the better players on defense.
Brian Sampson of dairylandexpress.com said about the Green Bay Packers giving Kenny Clark a contract extension before the start of the 2024 season:
“Kenny Clark has the biggest cap hit on the Packers this season at $27.5 million. He also has three void years: $13.8 million in 2025, $5.5 million in 2026, and $2.8 million in 2027, further complicating any extension conversations the two parties are having.
Clark finished 2023 with a career-high 7.5 sacks along with 25 pressures. Those numbers should increase considerably under Hafley. The new defensive coordinator wants more aggression from his defensive linemen and expects them to get after the quarterback. That’s right up Clark’s alley.
Green Bay could try to negotiate a deal that removes some of the void years on their salary cap over the next three years. That alone would be extremely helpful as they try to get their cap back in a good place. It will be interesting to see how negotiations play out and if Clark sticks around heading into his 30s.”
During the offseason, Kenny Clark has been mentioned as a potential candidate to sign with the Green Bay Packers rivals, the Minnesota Vikings next offseason. Minnesota needs a lot of help on defense and also former Packers running back Aaron Jones signed with the Vikings when he was released earlier this offseason.
Clark will be one of the starting defensive tackles this season. If second-year player Karl Brooks emerges for the Green Bay Packers this season, it may be an excuse not to give Kenny Clark a contract extension and just let him walk at the end of the 2024 season.
