James Harden sent shockwaves across the NBA after he accused Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey of being a “liar.” We all knew that Harden wanted to get traded this summer, but little did we know that he was this desperate to cut ties not only with Morey but with the entire Sixers organization as well.
James Harden Explains ‘Liar’ Accusation to NBA
Unsurprisingly, Harden’s unfiltered statement took the league by storm. After all, it’s not everyday that you hear a superstar come out with such blatant accusations against a high-ranking executive. You also have to consider that Harden and Morey have a long-standing relationship from their days with the Houston Rockets — one that now appears to be completely over.
Harden’s comments were so controversial that the NBA had to investigate the entire situation. Naturally, Harden was the main subject of the probe.
According to a report by NBA guru Shams Charania of The Athletic, Harden explained his “liar” accusation by circling back to Morey’s unwillingness to trade him earlier this summer:
“As part of NBA probe into his ‘liar’ comment, James Harden told league investigators he was referring to Daryl Morey telling Harden he will trade him “quickly” following the $35.6 million opt in for 2023-24, per sources. The 76ers’ stance now is they expect to keep Harden,” Shams wrote in his tweet.
James Harden clearly wants out and he knew he had to take action the moment Morey and the Sixers started peeling away from trade conversations. Harden’s goal is to leave Philadelphia at all costs and cut ties with Morey at the soonest possible time, and it looks like he’s going to get his wish.
Love him or hate him, I guess you have to give credit to James Harden for always finding a way to get his way — regardless of the extreme measures he takes and their underlying consequences.
