It didn’t take Matt LaFleur long to see the impressive talent of first-round pick Devonte Wyatt. Wyatt fell to the Green Bay Packers at No. 28 in the 2022 draft. All it took was two days of rookie minicamp for a first strong first impression to show itself.
“He sure looked good in some of the pass-rush things we were doing. I love his intensity, his focus. You can tell he’s been coached hard,” LaFleur said Saturday. “There’s a reason he was a first-round pick. You can see it.”
Scouting Report on Devonte Wyatt:
Devonte Wyatt is an extremely talented defensive tackle who has two major hangups: He’s already a 24-year-old and he did not play in a scheme that could showcase his explosive traits. However those traits showed up in a major way in his combine testing. Despite those facts, he is a very athletic defensive tackle who played in an advanced defense that put a lot on the plate of their defensive linemen and he should be ready to contribute to an NFL roster immediately.
Devonte Wyatt is a DT prospect in the 2022 draft class. He scored a 9.56 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 62 out of 1378 DT from 1987 to 2022. https://t.co/bjyfDxhOm7 #RAS pic.twitter.com/NoudTHBonR

In terms of his fit with the Packers, he will likely be a 3-4 defensive end. This will allow him to either defensive tackle role when the team is in nickel, a similar role to what he did at Georgia. Wyatt was predicted to not be there when Green Bay was on the clock for the 22nd pick of the draft, so to get him with the 28th pick was huge.
