The Packers wide receiver room is without a doubt a question mark outside of Davante Adams. Allen Lazard has shown that he’s capable of making plays now and then. The Packers signed Devin Funchess, but his deal is more of one where the Packers are hoping he can be the player he has potential to be. However, a team that was one game away from the Super Bowl is going to need a little more than hope. Dez Bryant is healthy, available, proven, and could really boost the Packers offense.
Health
Dez Bryant hasn’t played in a game since 2017. In 2018 he signed with the Saints in the middle of the season where he tore his achilles at a practice. Bryant’s last full healthy season was in 2017 where he had 838 yards and 6 touchdowns. He may be past his prime, but Bryant has been working out all offseason and during his time off. Dez can be a valuable piece for an offense as he looks to comeback healthy and prove he is still a force.
History
Dez signing with Green Bay comes with a little hitch. In the divisional round of the 2014 season Dez was the centerpiece of the infamous not a catch call. It would be understandable if Bryant has some ill will towards the Packers. However, when you look at Dez’s dominance in his career, it makes a player like himself very intriguing.
- 7,459 Yards
- 73 Touchdowns
- 99 Games Started
- 58.4 Catch Percentage
- 531 Receptions
The Move
The Packers still haven’t quite addressed the wide receiver position. They signed Funchess in free agency, but he also hasn’t played in a full season. Everyone expects the Packers to make a move at wideout next week in the draft. However, a rookie receiver isn’t a guarantee of success. The Packers could use a player like Dez Bryant to play along side Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, and Devin Funchess.
