The Green Bay Packers added a specialist to the roster who is riding a hot streak this spring. The Packers are getting their 90-man roster together ahead of OTA practices this spring. The Packers will see a kicking battle this spring after drafting Anders Carlson as a potential replacement for Mason Crosby. It appears there wi be extra competition at the punter position as well.
The Green Bay Packers sign a punter
Per multiple reports, the Packers are signing punter Daniel Whelan to the roster this spring.

Whelan recently played in the XFL this season. He earned All-XFL honors for his play this season. Whelan played college football for UC Davis. The Ireland native was signed by the New Orleans Saints last May. According to his profile on the Saints website, he was named to the FCS All-American team and broke school records at UC Davis:
“Whelan was a five-year letterman and four-year starter for UC-Davis…The Dublin, Ireland native finished his career as the most accomplished punter in program history…Finished his career with 206 punts for 9,067 yards (44.0 avg.), a career-long of 67 yards, 86 downed inside-the-20 yard line and 63 punts over 50 yards…Also handled the kickoff duties over his last two seasons, kicking off 103 times for 6,334 yards (61.5 avg.) with 54 touchbacks…Whelan’s 44-yard average and 86 punts inside the 20-yard line are program records,”

Whelan will be competing against Pat O’Donnell this offseason for a roster spot. The 32-year-old Donnell was signed by the Packers in 2022. He played for the Chicago Bears from 2014 through the 2021 season.
