The Green Bay Packers reportedly added an offensive lineman to their roster Thursday. The Packers are getting their 90-man roster filled out ahead of OTA practices next week. The team will need to use the OTAs to bring their young roster up to speed in a transitional year. Tuesday’s new addition will come into Packers practice next week with only one weekend of NFL practice experience.
The Green Bay Packers claim an offensive lineman
According to Field Yates with ESPN, the Packers claimed offensive tackle DJ Scaife off waivers.
Four players were claimed off of waivers today:
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) May 16, 2023
– The Packers claimed T DJ Scaife
– The Rams claimed DB Vincent Gray
– The Jets claimed DB Javelin Guidry
– The Steelers claimed DE Manny Jones
DJ Scaife was signed by the Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins signed Scaife as an undrafted rookie free agent following the draft. According to a Dolphins’ statement, he was a standout offensive lineman for the Miami Hurricanes:
“[Scaife] joined the Dolphins on May 12, 2023 as an undrafted college free agent. He lettered five seasons (2018-22) at Miami, where he played in 61 games with 52 starts, primarily at right guard and right tackle. Scaife earned second-team All-ACC honors in 2021 and honorable mention All-ACC recognition in 2022. He is a Miami native and played at Miami Southridge High School.”
Scaife will join a Packers offense that has many returning veterans on the offensive line but has youth at skilled positions. It will be hard for Scaife to earn a roster spot on the Packers’ deep offensive line in training camp this year. However, if the Packers were to trade David Bakhtiari this offseason, it’s possible Scaife could find a role on the Packers’ practice squad or better.
