The Green Bay Packers will need to make player personnel changes on the defensive side of the football this offseason and one of the names that could be on the trade market is Los Angeles Chargers OLB/DE Khalil Mack. The Chargers are currently $45 million over the cap and they could trade some players to relieve some cap space.
Mack has one more year left on his contract and is 32 years old. Next season, he will have a cap hit north of $38 million, according to Spotrac. A season ago with the Chargers, he recorded 74 total tackles, sacked the quarterback 17 times, forced five fumbles, and had 10 pass deflections.
Khalil Mack is 32 years old and he can disrupt a game at any moment. He is one of the best defensive players in the NFL. If the Green Bay Packers really want to fix the defense, they should trade their 25th overall pick for him in the 2024 NFL Draft and possibly a later-round selection to the Los Angeles Chargers.
They would still have nine selections to fix their football team through the draft. Mack could also be a veteran help to a player like Lukas Van Ness.
Imagine Offenses Game Planning For Khalil Mack and Rashan Gary For the Green Bay Packers in 2024
The pass rush for the Packers would improve so much if they traded for Mack from the Los Angeles Chargers. Khalil Mack would be on one side and OLB Rashan Gary would be on the other side. Gary was the best pass rusher for the Packers a season ago.
He had 44 total tackles, nine sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two pass deflections. Offensive lines would have problems with game planning for Rashan Gary and Mack. This would be a dream come true for the Packers defense.
With Joe Barry no longer the defensive coordinator, they hired Jeff Hafley to become the new Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator. Green Bay is going to switch to a 4-3 defense with the new defensive coordinator. They were in a 3-4 defensive scheme last season and this could benefit head coach Matt LaFleur.
What would also benefit this franchise is if general manager Brian Gutekunst traded for Khalil Mack. This would make the franchise and its fanbase very excited because Mack can lineup anywhere on the field on the defensive side of the football.
