The Green Bay Packers may have done it again. For the third time in a row it appears the Packers have a franchise quarterback. Jordan Love waited behind Aaron Rodgers for three seasons before he got his opportunity. Once he got it, he took full advantage.
While the 2023 season certainly had some ups and downs, the Packers wound up going 7-3 in their final 10 games of the season. That included a massive win over the Cowboys in the Wild Card round and a narrow three point loss to the 49ers in the Divisional Round.
Heading into 2024, however, the Packers could be looking a major change to their quarterback room.
The Green Bay Packers Could Be Looking At A Major Addition To Their Quarterback Room
While the Green Bay Packers have already selected their next franchise quarterback, Sam Hartman could make a good backup option in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Garrrett Podell of CBS Sports provided a seven-round mock draft for the Packers. As well as Iowa’s Cooper DeJean in the first round, some offensive line help was included.
As part of Podell’s Draft, the Packers would also take Hartman out of Notre Dame in the seventh round to compete for the QB2 job:

The Packers have said they wanted to get competition for Sean Clifford at the backup quarterback spot, so they select Sam Hartman with their final pick in the draft. He has a clean release and is able to adjust his throwing angles well. Hartman can get through route progressions quickly. Hartman’s arm strength isn’t elite, but he could have the potential to be a steady, game manager type of backup.
The Packers Will Likely Add To Their Quarterback Room This Off-Season
Yes, the Packers have Jordan Love for (hopefully) the next decade. However, they’ve made it clear they’re going to invest in the backup position.
Sean Clifford flat out won the QB2 job last season. He impressed the Packers’ front office from the start:
“I think it’s safe to say Sean is our No. 2 quarterback,” LaFleur said. “A lot of it is just his mental makeup. You saw it in the Cincinnati game in terms of his ability to rebound. The game’s not too big for him.”
It will be interesting to see how the Packers’ quarterback room looks week one of the 2024 NFL season.
