The Green Bay Packers know that their receiving corps is one of the weakest links in their offense. Long-time fans would recognize that a reliable WR room has been an issue even when Aaron Rodgers was still on the team, and some may feel frustrated that this is still a relevant topic among Packers fans.
The front office understands the need for a long-term solution at wideout, but everyone knows there’s still no solid first option for Jordan Love to throw the ball to. Christian Watson’s development has been hampered by injury, while Romeo Doubs is yet to have a breakout season as WR1.
While the 24-year-old athlete enjoyed a solid 2024 campaign so far, off-field issues saw him suspended from the team against the Los Angeles Rams. Now that he’s back on the roster, Matt LaFleur laid out the cards about Doubs’ conduct and how the team will move forward.
Matt LaFleur hopes for better communication as Romeo Doubs returns to the Green Bay Packers
Doubs was nowhere to be seen in the Packers locker room during the team’s media availability on Wednesday, but multiple players and coaches talked about the situation.
LaFleur’s comments were telling of what the team expects from the young wideout, as reported by the Associated Press:
“If there´s an issue, you´ve got to communicate so we can work it out together,” LaFleur said. “And unfortunately there´s a level, there´s a standard that you have to live by and if you don´t there´s going to be consequences. And I made that very clear to our team, like, there´s a level of professionalism, but you know what, each moment is a learning experience and like I mentioned last week it was a one-off, and we´re moving forward.”
It’s unlikely that the team will reveal what happened at the team’s training facility that caused the organization to slap him with a suspension, but it’s serious enough since they don’t have a consistent target who can generate yards post-catch.
Benching a player who caught the pigskin for 169 yards and 42.3 yards per game through four starts is a huge miss for the Packers. While they managed to win against the Los Angeles Rams, LaFleur and the rest of Lambeau Field will be more than happy to see a reliable target return against the Cardinals.
