Green Bay Packers fans would point to the team’s current lack of a reliable passing game as one of the team’s biggest obstacles to winning a Super Bowl.
There’s no question that Jordan Love is a phenomenal quarterback who deserves all the love he’s getting. The quality of performances he’s shown last season (and in the three games he’s played this year) shows that there’s more than enough reason for Packer Nation to be giddy about the team’s championship window.
However, a good quarterback can only take the team so far. Green Bay may have to settle for disappointing postseason if the team’s passing game doesn’t pick up steam. Christian Watson is one of the key receivers for this young Packers core, but the number of games he’s missed in his young career is already enough cause for concern.
Watson spoke to the media after returning to practice, and he was clear about his intentions for the remainder of the season.
Christian Watson lays out intentions to play every Green Bay Packers game in 2024
The Packers posted a video of the 25-year-old wideout’s interview with the media, where he talked about the status of his ankle.
He talked about the feeling of tweaking his ankle and his thoughts on the injury not being as serious as first feared:
“I was definitely feeling the worst, an awkward position for me to be in. I felt my leg going the wrong way… I’ve seen stuff like that happen before and it’s been pretty significant injuries. The pain alongside it was definitely scary [at] the moment. I’m just hoping and praying for the best… I dodged a bullet with how bad it could have been.”
He then revealed that he wants to play every game for the Packers for the remainder of the season.
“My goal every week is to play,” Watson said. “Last week, the question was me turning up out there and doing anything that would have been remotely my game. But it’s another week and I’m trying to get out there and play.”
Looking at the North Dakota State product’s numbers, it’s clear that injuries hamper his development into a decent wideout. He’s only had 80 receiving yards and one touchdown to his name in the four appearances he made this season.
With such numbers and a dubious injury history, it makes sense that he’s among the names featured in trade rumors. However, the narrative surrounding him may change if he puts up a strong string of performances starting against Arizona.
