The Green Bay Packers have had an up-and-down season thus far. Monday night’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders was their second-straight defeat and they have now fallen to 2-3 to start the season.
The trade deadline is fast approaching and considering the Packers’ current stature in the league, it would not be a surprise if they end up as sellers prior to the deadline.
Green Bay Packers to Trade Rasul Douglas Before Deadline?

Brian Sampson of Fansided has curated a list of five players who he believes are most in danger of being traded this season. One surprise candidate that was included on the list is cornerback Rasul Douglas, who more than a few folks might say is having the best season of his career in Green Bay.
According to Sampson, this is exactly why the Packers should consider cashing in on the one-time Super Bowl champ:
“Douglas is under contract in 2024 for a very reasonable $11.6 million, but doesn’t exactly line up with the Packers’ long-term plans. At 28-years-old, he’s a few years older than the core Green Bay is trying to build around. The Packers also have a glutton at cornerback including Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine and Corey Ballentine. They have plenty of depth to make up for the loss of Douglas if they can move him for a high price,” Sampson wrote.

While supporters might be sad to see Douglas go, there’s no denying that Sampson has a point here. You have to note, though, that trading away a key defensive player such as Douglas in exchange for future assets is an indication of the Packers accepting the fact that they won’t be competing for a title this season — or perhaps in the years to come. This might be common knowledge for most, but a significant trade such as this one all but seals the team’s fate.
