The Green Bay Packers and Rashan Gary have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $107 million. His $26.875 million average annual salary makes him the second-highest paid edge rusher in the NFL, only behind Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers. Gary announced the deal on social media this morning.
Gary joins an exclusive group of Packers draft picks that have been made among the highest-paid players at their positions at the time of signing their extensions. Such players include Jaire Alexander, Elgton Jenkins, and David Bakhtiari.
Ever since tearing his ACL in Week Nine last season, Gary has been open about how hard he has worked to get back on the field for the 2023 season. Packers fans took to social media to praise the signing and Gary for his determination to make it happen by returning to the field.

Green Bay Packers Fans React to Rashan Gary’s Massive Contract Extension
Early on Monday morning, Gary posted the following video to his social media accounts:
While the Packers have given their fans little to celebrate this season, Gary is a fan-favorite as well as one of their most important players as they look to build for the future. As such, fans were ecstatic to learn that he had been extended and will be a part of the organization for years to come:
ironically, my favorite thing about rashan gary is the fact that not a single player on this roster brings more fire, more competitiveness or more energy than him. his motor was the biggest critique when the packers drafted him — now he’s *the* motor.

Packers are getting Rashan Gary for his prime years of 25-29 at a pretty respectable price.
And there’s no way a guy as motivated and success-driven as Gary is going to start easing up on the field or in the gym now that he’s been paid.

Rashan Gary is the most deserving of this contract extension. The stats speak for themselves, the play on the field don’t lie, but the work ethic & the leadership behind the scenes is what sets him apart & makes him great. It’s what makes him the guy you build a defense around.…

While Packers fans may not agree on the future on the franchise with Jordan Love at quarterback, Matt LaFleur as head coach, or Brian Gutekunst as general manager, it seems as if everyone agrees that this is a good move for the organization.
Gary, of course, was drafted by Gutekunst and the Packers in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Ironically, many fans were upset with the pick at the time due to his injury history in college.
Time, and hard work, sure has changed people’s minds.
