The Green Bay Packers were forced to make a tough decision on Monday afternoon ahead of their Week Five matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders. Star running back Aaron Jones has been declared inactive for the game with a hamstring injury. Jones returned to the field last Thursday against the Detroit Lions after suffering the injury in Week One. However, he was limited to just 20 snaps and touched the ball just six times.
This past week, Jones was limited in practice, leading some to believe he would not play on Monday night. Confirmation that he is indeed out means that he will have almost two weeks to get his body right before Green Bay plays their next game. The Packers have a Bye Week next week.
The Green Bay Packers Have Signed Patrick Taylor to the 53-Man Roster
With Jones out, the Packers have decided once again to replace him with Patrick Taylor. However, due to Taylor’s three previous elevations from the practice squad, the Packers needed to sign him to their 53-man roster.
Taylor was elevated in each of the Packers’ first three games of the season. In Week One, his elevation was for special teams purposes. However, in Weeks Two and Three, he was elevated to provide depth at the running back position.
AJ Dillon will once again get the start in place of Jones. Emanuel Wilson remains on the roster as well.
The Green Bay Packers Release Justin Hollins
In order to make room for Taylor on the 53-man roster, the Packers released edge rusher Justin Hollins, who was signed midway through last season following his release from the Los Angeles Rams.
Hollins’ release is unfortunate, but not surprising. Green Bay has committed to their youth movement, and Hollins was getting playing time over young edge rushers Kingsley Enagbare and Lukas Van Ness.
It will be interesting to see how the defense responds without Hollins, who was the fourth-highest graded run defender on the team per PFF. Green Bay is a team that struggles to stop the run anyway, so Hollins not being on the roster any longer could have an even more negative effect.
