The Green Bay Packers start their season off against the Chicago Bears on the road this Sunday. The offense has many questions as Week 1 is near. But, the defense has many returning starters coming back after last season. They should be the strong point with leaders like Rashan Gary, De’Vondre Campbell, Preston Smith, Rasul Douglas, and Jaire Alexander.
On Wednesday, one starter in the defensive secondary returned to practice after missing last Thursday. Matt Schneidman was the first to report it on Twitter (X):
Green Bay Packers Safety Returned to Practice on Wednesday
Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs are both not practicing today. Both will be on the injury report.
Darnell Savage returned to practice after missing last Thursday.
David Bakhtiari also not practicing, though we’ll see plenty of that this season. Shouldn’t be a concern.

In 2022, Savage played in 16 games for the Green Bay Packers. He had 43 total tackles, 15 assisted tackles, and one interception.
Darnell Savage With The Packers Coming into 2023
Darnell Savage started his career with the Packers in 2019. Coming into the 2023 season, coaches, fans, and Savage himself are looking for more consistency. He has been used to playing in the slot position, but now, with Rudy Ford on the field next to him, Savage will be playing in a deeper spot this season.
He had moments last season of having too many missed tackles or coverage mistakes that cost the team in 2022. Darnell Savage is certainly looking to help lead the secondary to begin the 2023 campaign. The Green Bay Packers are hoping for a bounce-back season with Savage as the veteran free safety.
Packers Defense

With the Green Bay Packers heading into Soldier Field to start the season, they will have to stop dual-threat quarterback Justin Fields. This means that pass defense will be crucial down the field as well. This includes Darnell Savage having to be in the right spots when Chicago throws a deep ball during the game.
Yes, the Packers may miss tackles trying to slow down their rival. But, they have to make sure that it does not hurt the team as they try to win on the road. Green Bay now has a new quarterback under center in Jordan Love on offense. If they can click on that side of the ball, it will certainly help the defense stay off the field.
