Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers are gearing up for a new season. The fate of the Packers in the coming 2024 NFL campaign is tied in large part to what Love can do in his second year as the team’s full-time starter. Love showed he can be the franchise quarterback for Green Bay after the Aaron Rodgers era. But is he already a top-tier NFL quarterback?
Will Jordan Love ever become a Tier 1 QB?
Over at The Athletic, NFL coaches and executives were asked to share their views on which tiers the starting quarterbacks this year belong. After gathering the votes, Love ended up in Tier 2 and ranked 14th overall. However, at least one NFL coach believes that Love will become a Tier 1 QB down the road.
“Of the guys I think that can ascend to 1, this is the guy that comes to mind,” a defensive coordinator said. “He’s got command of the offense, he can make every throw, he can make plays off-script, he can play on-script, he gets the ball out on time when everything is right and he is more athletic than you think. He’s got a playmaker’s mentality, and he started playing with a confidence that everybody can see.”
Another coach shares the same sentiment.
“He is a 2 going to a 1,” an offensive play caller said. “F—, he had a perfect goddamn passer rating in the playoff game (against Dallas). He can make all the throws, he’s composed. Very impressed.”
In the 2023 NFL season, Love finished with 4,159 passing yards and 32 touchdowns to go with 11 interceptions. He also steered the Packers to the playoffs, where Green Bay surprisingly won a game, defeating the Dallas Cowboys in the wild-card round before losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round.
Love and the Packers will kick off their 2024 campaign on Sep. 6 versus the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil.
