The Milwaukee Brewers are on a streak again. They scored their second consecutive victory on Thursday night at home, as they dominated the San Francisco Giants at home to the tune of a 6-0 score. Milwaukee got it going at the plate — even on the basepaths, with William Contreras surprising everyone with his wheels (sort of).
With runners on first and third bases in the bottom of the third inning, Willy Adames hit a single. Contreras, who was on third base, tried to go for it. He would have been caught had Giants shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald fired the ball home. But Fitzgerald elected to throw to third baseman Matt Chapman who failed to secure the ball properly, thus allowing Contreras to waltz his way to home plate and give the Brewers a 3-0 lead.

At that point, Contreras took off from third and attempted to score. Fitzgerald threw to third rather than going to the plate, and third baseman Matt Chapman bobbled the ball before he could throw home. Contreras slid across the plate without a throw and was credited with a steal of home.
“I don’t think that happens a whole lot,” Contreras said through a translator. “I think there’s a little bit of luck in there. I’ll definitely take it. In the books, it goes down as a stolen base of home. I’ll take that.”

Contreras ties career-high with steal in win over the Giants

Contreras finished the game 2-for-3 with a run and a walk and a strikeout. With his steal in the series finale against the Giants, Contreras is just a stolen base away from setting a new single-season career high. He had six stolen bases in 141 games last season.
Through 129 games in the 2024 MLB campaign, Contreras is hitting .285/.361/.466 with 18 home runs and 77 RBIs.
