Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was not happy with how his team performed in the loss to the Giants. One of the most egregious moments was the final drive where the Packers allowed four easy completions that put their opponent in field goal range for the winning kick. In a press conference today, LaFleur took a subtle jab at Joe Barry.
Coach LaFleur on not understanding why the corners played off on the final drive when man coverage was the call. If Barry told them to play off Coach LaFleur didn't know that was in the game plan. #Packers fans do you think he is referring to the players not playing it correct or… pic.twitter.com/q0ObAqdt9s

Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur On Joe Barry
LaFleur said that he did not know why the corners were playing so far off on the final drive. Man coverage was the call but the corners were playing almost ten yards off. The most egregious play was when a three-yard catch turned into a ten-yard catch because there was no one in the vicinity to make a tackle. He then went on to say that if that was the call by Joe Barry he didn’t know that was in the game plan. This is a subtle jab at Barry but also raises a lot of questions about what is happening in the coaching staff.
How Would He Not Know? And Why Doesn’t He Overrule?
I know that LaFleur is an offensive-minded head coach but I have a hard time believing that he has no clue what the defensive scheme is. If he doesn’t that seems like coaching malpractice. Furthermore, why is LaFleur not overruling Barry on the final drive? After the first couple of plays, LaFleur could have easily changed the call to press coverage and relayed that to De’Vondre Campbell. He’s the head coach and I don’t buy that he simply doesn’t pay attention to anything on the defense. The lack of adjustment is what is most maddening for many fans.
Are we starting to see frustration with Barry come to a head? For many fans, including myself, the feeling is that it is time to move on and try something new.
