After an incredible run this season, the Green Bay Packers bowed down to the San Francisco 49ers in a 24-21 loss. Even if that’s the case, there’s no denying the team turned a lot of heads around by playing exceptionally well all season long.
This comes after Aaron Rodgers left the team and Jordan Love assumed the role as the Packers’ quarterback. Since then, Green Bay has defied all expectations by going far in the playoffs before being eliminated by the 49ers in the divisional round.
In that particular game, Love and company dropped the ball in the final stretch. This led San Francisco to capitalize on their mistakes, particularly a missed kick by Anders Carlson and a wild pass by Love, to advance to the NFC championship.
But as Rob Gronkowski said on ESPN, the Packers played good football for 58 minutes and only lost the game in the final two. Nevertheless, this goes to show how far the team has gone since Rodgers was traded.
Matt LaFleur Drops Honest Take on Green Bay Packers’ Defense vs. San Francisco 49ers
While Gronkowski’s take is solid, the Green Bay Packers head coach himself offers another honest assessment on how the team performed against the San Francisco 49ers. Matt LaFleur said that they had a good defensive performance on Saturday night.
According to Jason B. Hirschhorn:
“I thought it was fantastic. Certainly, you’d like to get a stop at the end, and that’s one of the best offenses in this league, one of the best football teams in this league,” LaFleur said.
Coming from the Packers’ head coach, that seems to be a grounded take on how the team performed against the 49ers. With Love assuming the role Rodgers left and making into his own, there’s no reason for the team not to improve on what it has built in the coming years.
Of course, the Brock Purdy-led team deserves a lot of credit for being one of the best offensive teams in the NFL. All in all, it looks like the Packers are looking good, even if their season ended just recently.
