The Green Bay Packers have another opportunity to put all their hard work this summer to the test when they face off against the New England Patriots on Sunday in a preseason matchup. Before the actual game, the Packers will also have joint practices with the Pats.
For his part, Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur is relishing the opportunity not only to test his team against a formidable opposition but at the same time, LaFleur is also looking forward to going up against one of the all-time great coaches in the sport in Bill Belichick.
Green Bay Packers’ Matt LaFleur Heaps Praise on Bill Belichick
LaFleur and Belichick had to agree on a specific format for their joint practices this week, which turned out to be quite an experience for the Packers head coach:
“He’s been great,” LaFleur said, via Bill Huber of Packer Central. “Had a couple back and forths in terms of the schedule – still finalizing all the details – but, for the most part, it’s been pretty smooth. He’s arguably the best to ever do it, so I thought it would be in our best interest to try to learn a few things from him.”
Obviously, LaFleur holds Belichick in very high regard. So much so, that the Patriots shot-caller has earned some GOAT-level praise from LaFleur.
Setting all the pleasantries aside, however, the Packers coach also knows that this is a good opportunity to scout the opposition as well as to learn a thing or two from the great Bill Belichick:
“I’ve always admired how their team has played, having gone against him many times,” LaFleur said. “Having them here last year, I thought just specifically on the defensive side of the ball, I thought they did a really good job of attacking the football, probably as good as anybody we played last year. So, wanted to just see their practice habits and how they go about their business.”
Matt LaFleur and the Packers will get to do just that in their joint practices on Wednesday and Thursday before taking to the field on Sunday for their preseason matchup.
