The Packers enter their second week of the preseason, and they will get a formidable challenge against the New England Patriots. The Packers and Patriots will engage in a two-day joint practice followed by the preseason game on Friday.
The Packers aim to capitalize on their momentum from their successful game against the Cincinnati Bengals and continue to improve. However, this week will not be easy for this young Packer team, as they face a strong and experienced Patriots team. The joint practice will serve as a significant test for the Packers, and here’s why:
Joint Practice vs. Patriots Will Test the Packers
Jordan Love Faces a Bill Belichick-Coached Defense
Jordan Love was tested last week against a talented Cincinnati Bengals defense. However, this week will be even more challenging as he faces off against the New England Patriots’ defense. The Patriots’ defense is incredibly talented and is led by the highly respected Bill Belichick, who is regarded as one of the best defensive minds in NFL history. Belichick’s defenses have consistently ranked in the top10 each season and have played a crucial role in the Patriots’ six Super Bowl victories.
Additionally, Belichick is known for making things difficult for young quarterbacks. Thus, Jordan Love can expect a tough challenge as Belichick and the Patriots defense. Overall, this will be an excellent opportunity for Love to go against one of the best defensive gurus in the NFL, Bill Belichick.
Packers’ Defensive Line Gets Reps
After dominating the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive line last week, the Packer’s defensive line this week will be facing the Patriots’ offensive line, which is widely regarded as one of the NFL’s best and is anchored by one of the best centers in the league, David Andrews.
Known for their physicality across the board, this group presents a significant challenge for the Packers’ defensive line. It will be an excellent opportunity to see how the Packer’s defensive front stacks up against one of the league’s top offensive lines.
Better Quarterback Play vs. the Packers’ Defense
The Packers’ defense held the Cincinnati Bengals’ offense in check last week. They kept them out of the endzone and limited them to field goals. It’s worth noting that the Bengals were missing their starting quarterback, Joe Burrow, and had pretty awful backup quarterbacks. This week against the New England Patriots will be a tougher challenge, as they have starting quarterback Mac Jones and backup Bailey Zappe.
Both of these quarterbacks are much better than what the Bengals had last week. This will be a very good test for the Packer’s defense, taking on both of the Patriot quarterbacks this week.
Another Test For the Packers’ Offensive Line
After handling the Cincinnati Bengals’ pass rush well last week, the Packers are now up against the New England Patriots, who are equally skilled at getting after the quarterback. During joint practice last week against the Bengals, Trey Hendrickson caused havoc for the Packers’ offensive line with seven sacks on the day. Matters will only become more challenging as they now face Matthew Judon, one of the NFL’s top pass rushers, who can play multiple positions on the Patriot’s defensive front. The Patriots’ pass rush will pose a serious challenge for the Packers’ offensive line.
Young Packers Receivers Battle Against a Good Patriots Secondary
Last week, the Packers’ young wide receivers performed impressively against the Cincinnati Bengals’ secondary. However, their skills will be put to the test again this week against the New England Patriots’ formidable defensive backfield. The Patriots boast top-notch corners such as rookie Christian Gonzalez and Johnathan Jones, along with solid safeties Jabrill Peppers, Kyle Dugger, and Jalen Mills.
