The Green Bay Packers have much of their talent locked into contracts, particularly on the offensive end, mostly due to rookie contracts assigned to their weapons. However, there is one crucial member of the offense who is slated to be a free agent after playing in 84% of the Green Bay Packers offensive snaps in 2023.
John Runyan Jr’s Impact
John Runyan Jr. was a part of the Packers’ offensive line that despite the loss of an all-pro tackle in David Bakhtiari, came together to allow the third least sacks allowed of any NFL team. With David Bakhtiari’s future as a Green Bay Packer up in the air, it is key that the Packers suffer the least amount of setbacks possible with a promising offensive line.
John Runyan himself has continued to show improvement throughout his short career, only allowing two sacks in his 2023 campaign as opposed to the three a year before. Although he was called for six penalties in 2023 despite only two combined throughout the two previous years. Some may call this cause for concern, and rightfully so, but given his history with penalties, there is no reason he can not return to his disciplined ways.
John Runyan Jr has solidified himself as a top-tier pass protector, according to Pro Football Focus, he has allowed a top ten lowest pressure percentage among guards in each of his first three seasons starting as a Green Bay Packer. The 6’4 306 pound lineman has proven to be a key piece to protecting the face of the franchise Jordan Love.
Dedication To The Green Bay Packers
When asked about his time as a Packer coming to an end, John Runyan Jr found himself fighting back tears. His loyalty to the franchise proved to be unwavering even as his future with Green Bay was up in the air.
Asked #Packers free agent Jon Runyan Jr. “what does it mean to wear the G”?
Through tears, “It was awesome. I don’t know if there’s a better organization out there. I love it here…I hope I don’t leave.”

It is as clear as possible that John Runyan Jr will do what is necessary to keep himself in the Green Bay Packers organization, an allegiance that can be difficult to come by in the National Football League.
New Agent New Contract Talks
Contract negotiations come down to the organization and agent more often than not. Unless a player is in the circumstance of representing themselves (like MVP Lamar Jackson,) the right agent can make the negotiations move much quicker. It seems as though John Runyan Jr hopes to find that negotiation success, as he moves on to notable NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus.
Drew Rosenhaus has represented numerous NFL superstars and role players alike, from Terrell Owens to Tyreek Hill, even Greenbay Packers star running back Aaron Jones. With a career in sports agency starting in 1989, Rosenhaus has solidified himself as a top agent for NFL talent looking for contracts that they want.
According to Green Bay Packers Beat writer for the Athletic, Matt Schneidman, the swapping of agents has reinvigorated talks between the Green Bay Packers and John Runyan Jr.
Packers starting RG Jon Runyan Jr. is set to be a UFA and switched his agent to Drew Rosenhaus. Per source, Rosenhaus met with Packers brass in Indianapolis and there is mutual interest in Runyan remaining a Packer. Would have to be right price for both sides, of course.

This is just a preliminary report stemming from the Indianapolis NFL Combine, the Packers, and John Runyan Jr would like to come to terms on a deal that locks the talented pass protector in place. There is a lot of work to be done on the business side, but with agent Drew Rosenhaus it seems like the odds of that happening has gone way up.
