The Green Bay Packers have seen an unprecedented amount of personnel turnover over the last two off-seasons. Specifically, this past off-season the Packers became one of the youngest teams in the NFL by way of trade and refusing to re-sign many of their veteran free agents.
One of the no-so-veteran free agent wide receivers they decided to move on from signed with a new team today.
Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Juwann Winfree Is Signed To The Indianapolis Colts’ Active Roster
Jordan Sigler of Wisconsin Sports Heroics covered the story for our website:
According to a statement by the Colts, Indianapolis signed former Packers wider receiver Juwann Winfree and cut two wide receivers from their practice squad. The Colts signed another wide receiver to the practice squad:
“The Indianapolis Colts today signed free agent wide receiver Juwann Winfree. In addition, the team restored center Jack Anderson to the practice squad and signed wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland and running back Zavier Scott to the practice squad. The team released wide receivers Racey McMath and Anthony Miller and guard Dakoda Shepley from the practice squad.
Winfree, 6-1, 210 pounds, has spent time on the team’s active roster and practice squad this season after originally signing with Indianapolis as a free agent on May 9, 2023. He has played in 18 career games in his time with the Colts (2023), Green Bay Packers (2020-22) and Denver Broncos (2019) and has compiled nine receptions for 75 yards (8.3 avg.). Winfree has also appeared in one postseason contest.”
Winfree played in 12 games for the Packers and received 17 targets during that time. He caught nine passes for 75 yards for Green Bay.
Packers Fans React To Winfree Getting Signed To The Active Roster
Winfree spent three years in Green Bay and appeared in a total of 10 games. There were moments during training camp and OTAs that left fans in awe of his potential. Unfortunately it never worked out with the Packers and we was eventually released for good. When Packers fans saw that he was getting another chance with the Colts, they reacted accordingly on Twitter:
Alec Pierce hurt his shoulder Sunday, so the outside WR depth has been something to monitor. The Colts had Amari Rodgers in that spot after Pierce went down.
