Green Bay Packers Named In Trade Amid WR Injuries Days Before Chicago Bears Contest

The Green Bay Packers face off against the Chicago Bears this Sunday in pursuit of their 14th NFL Title.  The start of the year already has the Packers dealing with a few key injuries at their playmaking position.  Christian Watson and/or Romeo Doubs could miss their home opener which, obviously, would have a huge impact on their offense.  Could the Packers actually trade away another pass catcher before the season starts?

Could The Green Bay Packers Trade Away Josiah Deguara Their Season Opener Vs The Chicago Bears?

According to Rucker Haringey of Fansided:

Dealing the only experienced tight end on the roster might seem like a drastic move by the Packers, but he’s already buried behind two rookies on the depth chart. Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft are going to soak up most of the meaningful snaps for the Packers which means Deguara won’t be able to put up any noticeable stats.

The Packers don’t need to give Deguara away, but if they can acquire a mid-round draft pick for his services it would be a big win by the front office.

On the Green Bay Packers’ roster, Josiah Deguara is listed as a tight end. He is in the meeting room with the tight end group and goes through many drills with them. However, he is actually an H-back from a technical perspective.

Ideally, Matt LaFleur would like Deguara to play the H-back position in his offense, which is an important part of his offense.

Despite missing most of his rookie season in 2020 with an ACL injury and averaging just 325 offensive snaps over the last two seasons, Deguara is the most experienced player in his position group. He’s been on the field for 278 run-blocking snaps, according to PFF, and has caught 39 of his 50 targets at 9.5 yards per catch with two touchdowns.

I wouldn’t imagine the Packers getting enough in return to justify trading away Deguara.  The “dirty” work Deguara does in this offense is invaluable at times, however, that doesn’t always translate to the trade block.
