The Green Bay Packers will have a new-look offense in 2023. Jordan Love will officially be under center week one when the Packers travel to Chicago to take on the Bears. It will mark the first time in 31 years that someone not named Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers started at quarterback for week one. As a flurry of changes were made on the offense, there are many young and talented pass catchers on this team. However, one of them is emerging as a potential top target for Jordan Love.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs Emerging As Top Target?
The Green Bay Packers have selected three wideouts in the top four rounds of the last two NFL drafts. Christian Watson and Jayden Reed were second-round selections in 2022 and 2023, respectively, but it’s 2022 fourth-round pick Romeo Doubs who has seized the coveted role as Love’s top target early in 2023 OTAs. Rob Demovsky of ESPN reported the development this past week:
“Not that the dynamic, deep threat of Christian Watson won’t have as big an impact — or perhaps bigger — on the new-look offense in the post-Aaron Rodgers era, but if anything can be gleaned from the three OTA practices that have been open for viewing this spring, it’s that Love believes he can rely on Doubs,” Demovsky wrote.
“Doubs has been on the receiving end of target after target,” he continued. “Last week, Love completed seven passes during the two-minute drive, and four of them (for 45 yards) went to Doubs.”
“When in doubt, you can throw it out there and you know he’s going to make a play,” Love said, per Demovsky. “He’s made some really tough catches, and it kind of just builds everybody’s confidence. It builds my confidence in him.”
The Green Bay Packers wide receiver is feeling good as he enters his second year in the NFL. The 23-year-old is expected to play a big role in the Packers’ offense this season as a starter, he could possibly even be the number one guy.
If Romeo Doubs can continue developing into a WR 1/2 on this roster, the Green Bay Packers passing attack will have a lot of potential going forward. Christian Watson has proved he can be a superstar in this league. The Packers drafted a slew of weapons for Jordan Love in the second and third rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft. All of these additions/returns combined with Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon out of the backfield could provide the Packers and extremely deep attack.
