Jordan Love has arrived. Two weeks into his first year as the Green Bay Packers’ new QB1, the 24-year-old has proven that he is capable of stepping out of the huge shadow of Aaron Rodgers and stepping into this massive new role as the franchise’s new cornerstone quarterback.
After a strong debut against the Chicago Bears in Week 1, Love followed it up with another eye-opening showing in Week 2 in Green Bay’s 25-24 loss against the Atlanta Falcons. The Packers may have lost their first game of the season, but there’s no denying that Love has given the fans even more reasons to be excited for what’s ahead this year.
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love Ranked Top 3 in NFC
Alyssa Barbieri of BearsWire took an in-depth look at the quarterback rankings in the NFC after Week 2 based on ESPN’s Total QBR rating, which is currently one of the most prominent metrics out there today. Green Bay fans will be glad to know that in spite of their loss against Atlanta, Love still ranks third overall among the 16 quarterbacks in the entire NFC with a total QBR of 76.3.
“Love and the Packers were defeated by the Falcons, 25-24, on Sunday. Love completed 14-of-25 passes for 151 yards with three touchdowns and was sacked once. He added two carries for 23 yards,” Barbieri wrote.
It wasn’t exactly a masterclass performance from Jordan Love, but it was more than enough to place him above the likes of Jalen Hurts (40.8), Matthew Stafford (69.2), Kirk Cousins (71.6), and Jared Goff (75.3), among others.
The only other quarterbacks that were ranked above Love after Week 2 were Brock Purdy (83.7) and Dak Prescott (83.7).
Love will now look to keep his foot on the gas as Green Bay prepares for their Week 3 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Another strong outing for the former Utah State standout should all but quash any and all doubt about his ability to take over the helm for the Packers.
Chicago Bears’ Justin Fields Ranked No. 15
Green Bay supporters will likely want to know how Justin Fields performed in Week 2, at least in terms of ESPN’s renowned metric. Packers fans should have a smile on their face after seeing how Fields attained a lowly 23 QBR, which is ranked all the way down at 15th. Only rookie Bryce Young (16.9) was ranked lower than Fields in Week 2.
“Fields and the Bears suffered another demoralizing defeat, this time to the Buccaneers, 27-17. Fields completed 16-of-29 passes for 211 yards with one touchdown, two interceptions, two fumbles and was sacked six times. He only had four carries for three yards and a score,” Barbieri wrote.
