Despite having a well-oiled offense led by Jordan Love, the Green Bay Packers’ defense left a lot to be desired last season. To fix that, the front office fired Joe Barry and replaced him with Jeff Hafley as the team’s new defensive coordinator.
Last season, the Packers managed to drop jaws by making it far into the playoffs. After a slow start to their campaign, the team found itself decimating the Dallas Cowboys in the wild-card round. This led Green Bay to a showdown with the eventual Super Bowl runner-up, the San Francisco 49ers.
Unfortunately, the team’s lack of experience in closing games due to costly mistakes led to their elimination from the playoffs. The 49ers would go on to advance to the NFC championship, and battle the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Although the Packers’ season ended earlier than they expected, there’s a bright hope that their next campaign will be a better one. And with Hafley handling the team’s defense, it looks like Green Bay’s projected ranking in the coming months is only bound to get better.
Los Angeles Rams’ Jordan Fuller Says Green Bay Packers Defensive Coordinator Has a Super Power
Along with head coach Matt La Fleur, the Los Angeles Rams’ Jordan Fuller also acknowledges how having Hafley on the Packers is a great move. The Super Bowl champion explained more in an article written by Matt Schneidman for The Athletic:
“His name was, ‘The Wizard,’” Jordan Fuller, a Rams captain and former Ohio State safety, said in a phone conversation. “I think his superpower is his mind and how he sees the game and how he understands the game,” said the 25-year-old Fuller, who’s scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after having three interceptions, three forced fumbles and eight passes defensed for the Rams in 2023. “His in-game adjustments and him having us ready for certain looks that offenses would give us and stuff like that, it really felt like he gave us a winning edge,” Schneidman wrote.
With Hafley onboard, Love and company can take their game to the next level. If this happens, expect the Packers to rise up in the standings when the next season starts later this year.
