The Green Bay Packers could very well be in the market for a new defensive coordinator once their season comes to and end. Joe Barry has been on the hot seat for a while, even with their three game winning streak to end the year.
There has been one name floating around that many fans and analysts have thought would be a prime candidate for the defensive coordinator job in Green Bay. However, that candidate may not be able to ever interview in Green Bay.
The Green Bay Packers May Never Get To Interview A Prime Defensive Coordinator Candidate
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN:
Panthers have blocked Jaguars’ request to interview DC Ejiro Evero for Jacksonville’s coordinator job, per sources.
Carolina plans to interview Evero for its head coaching position. Evero led the Panthers’ fourth-ranked total defense despite Carolina’s NFL-worst offense.
Evero has been linked to the Packers more than once in the past.
Under Head Coach Sean McVay, LaFleur and Evero worked together. In 2017, LaFleur was the offensive coordinator while Evero was the safeties coach.
If the Panthers decide to go in another direction with their head coaching vacancy, Evero would likely jump to the top of the Packers’ list. Prior to hiring Joe Barry, Green Bay considered Evero for the defensive coordinator position three years ago.
LaFleur’s recent comments demonstrate that he has kept track of Evero’s progress since they decided to go in a different direction.
