New Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is wasting no time putting his team together on the defensive side of the ball.  The Packers have already relieved former defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery and replaced him with Vince Oghobasse.

Now it is being reported that the Packers have moved on from another defensive coach.

    According to Tom Silverstein:

As new DC Jeff Hafley builds his staff, two #Packers defensive assistants who will not return are passing game coordinator Greg Williams and inside linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti a source said.

Olivadotti will join the staff of new #Seahawks coach Mike McDonald.

On March 10, 2023, Greg Williams joined the Packers. With 14 seasons of NFL coaching experience, Williams spent the last four years (2019-22) as the Arizona Cardinals’ cornerbacks coach before joining Green Bay in 2023.

He led a cornerback group that helped Arizona rank No. 2 in the league in yards allowed per completion in 2022 (10.10), the best mark by the Cardinals since the merger of the AFL and NFL in 1970. In 2020, he tutored second-year cornerback Byron Murphy Jr., who became the first Cardinal to record multiple sacks and multiple fumble recoveries in the same season since 1982.

He also formerly served as the Chargers’ assistant secondary coach from 2013-15, where he worked with 2013 and 2014 Pro Bowl selection Eric Weddle.

In 2023, however, the Packers ranked 17th in the league in passing yards allowed per game (335).  They also allowed 37 passing touchdowns and 7 passing touchdowns in the playoffs (two games).

It will be interesting to see who the Packers bring in to replace Williams in an attempt to get that unit back into the top 10.
