The Green Bay Packers seem to be overhauling their defensive coaching staff this off-season. This was of course headlined by letting go of former defensive coordinator Joe Barry and hiring Jeff Hafley to replace him. The Packers have also moved on from their defensive line coach in Jerry Montgomery.
Today, however, it was reported that the Hafley has made a significant addition to his defensive coaching staff.
Green Bay Packers Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley Hand Picks New Coach For Defense
According to Tom Sliverstein:
New #Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is bringing D-line coach Vince Oghobasse with him from Boston College, a source said.
Oghobasse coached with Hafley with the #49ers and also spent time at Ohio State and UCLA. Oghobasse will replace D-line coach Jerry Montgomery.
Since 2020, when Hafley became head coach, Oghobaase has been the defensive line coach at Boston College. Prior to that, Oghobaase served as UCLA’s defensive line coach from 2018 through 2019 and as the 49ers’ assistant defensive line coach from 2016 to 2017.
“I had the opportunity to work with Vince in San Francisco and his knowledge of the game, energy and commitment to the players jumped out to me,” said Hafley when Oghobaase joined his staff in 2020.
“At Ohio State, he trained under one of the best defensive line coaches in all of football in Larry Johnson and he gained excellent experience the last two seasons at the defensive line coach at UCLA.”
The rush defense has been a bit of an issue in Green Bay for quite some time. There will certainly be high hopes for the new defensive line coach to make changes to that aspect of the defense.
