Game Recap: Set Up for Sweep
If you missed the last game’s article, I nailed the prediction giving out Severino under 15.5 out. He lasted all of 5 innings, leaving us 1 out to spare. The game was a high-scoring affair with the Brewers leading comfortably for most of the game, before the Mets’ cut it to one late. The Brewers’ bullpen has dominated the first two games of this series, with Uribe looking like a formidable major league closer. The bats looked alive, getting hits from all starters but Bauers. Things got chippy as Hoskins was thrown at after the Mets took exception to his hard slide in Game 1. This incident couldn’t shake Hoskins as he continued his tear with a 2-4, 4 RBI slash line. All ended happily in Brewers land, as the Crew finished off the game with a 7-6 win. Setting up for a potential opening series sweep with a win today.
Fade or Follow: Game 3
In the third and final game of this opening series, the Brewers look to complete the sweep of the New York Mets. Colin Rea takes the hill for Milwaukee where he looks to start hot after an adequate 2023 season. Rea pitched a career-high 124.2 innings in 2023, to a 4.55 ERA. For the Brewers to push to a playoff birth, Rea will need to eat innings while limiting the long ball. Countering the Brewers will be Tylor Megill. Similarly, Megill saw his innings dramatically increase last season, while inflating his ERA to a 4.70.
The Bet(s) to Make: 03/31/24
Brewers/Mets Over 8
The Brewers bullpen has been lights-out in the first two games of this series. That said, they’ve had to lean on these relievers to eat innings and I predict that will catch up to them in today’s game. Trevor Megill and Uribe have pitched in both of the first two games of this series, leading to a likely day off. In yesterday’s 7-6 win, Pegurro, Milner, and Wilson also saw action. I see this game becoming a slugfest from the opening pitch. Both pitchers want the ball put in play but tend to throw many pitches per inning. This can lead to long innings and potential early pulls. Taxed bullpens will mean flatter pitches and the potential for late lead changes. Take the over as I see a game set for fireworks.
