The Green Bay Packers wide receivers have been in the news for all sorts of reasons this offseason. Some have been mentioned in trade rumors and some have been questioned as to who will emerge as the top wide receiver on the team this season.
Green Bay’s wide receivers are not getting paid big bucks yet. They will have to decide who to keep between Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Bo Melton. The Packers can not pay everyone.
They still have to give quarterback Jordan Love and defensive lineman Kenny Clark a contract extension. Also, what kind of contracts could Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft get when they have to get paid? This is why the Green Bay Packers need to maximize the young offensive talent they have on the roster now.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Jayden Reed Picked As SI.com’s NFC North All-Second Team For Wide Receiver
Green Bay Packers second-year wide receiver Jayden Reed was picked on SI.com’s all-NFC North second-team at the wide receiver position. Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated said:
“Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson ran away with the receiver vote for SI.com’s All-NFC North team, while Green Bay Packers standout Jayden Reed was a second-team choice.
Bill Huber from Packers on SI, John Maakaron from Lions on SI, Gene Chamberlain from Bears on SI and Joe Nelson from Vikings on SI each picked five receivers. Jefferson earned all four of the first-place votes for four points. The Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown, who the Packers could have drafted rather than Amari Rodgers in 2021, garnered all four of the second-place votes for eight points. The Bears’ D.J. Moore was named on all four ballots (two for third place, two for fourth place for 14 points) to earn the final first-team spot.
The second team consisted of the Bears’ Keenan Allen (two third-place votes, one fourth-place vote but omitted on my ballot), Reed (three fifth-place votes) and the Vikings’ Jordan Addison (one fourth-place vote, one fifth-place vote).”
It is not a surprise that Justin Jefferson, Amon-Ra. St. Brown, and D.J. Moore all made the list ahead of Jayden Reed. It is a good thing that Reed made the second team because he was the Green Bay Packers’ best wide receiver in 2023. It would not be a surprise if he was Green Bay’s best wide receiver in 2024.
Reed last season caught 64 passes for 793 yards receiving and eight touchdowns, along with averaging 12.4 yards per reception. He was also targeted 94 times. Jayden Reed was also effective in the ground game with 11 carries for 119 yards rushing and two touchdowns, along with averaging 10.8 yards per rush.
The Green Bay Packers did not have a 1,000-yard receiver a season ago. Jayden Reed could be the one to do it this season.
